چکیده

A hetero-stranded double helix with a controlled helix sense was designed and synthesized from an optically active dimeric amidine and its complementary achiral dicarboxylic acid strand with conjugated m-diethynylbenzene backbones, being stabilized by the salt bridges.

Chirality- and sequence-selective successive self-sorting via specific homo- and complementary-duplex formations

Self-recognition and self-discrimination within complex mixtures are of fundamental importance in biological systems, which entirely rely on the preprogrammed monomer sequences and homochirality of biological macromolecules. Here we report artificial chirality- and sequence-selective successive self-sorting of chiral dimeric strands bearing carboxylic acid or amidine groups joined by chiral ami...

Bis-Amidinium Calixarenes: Templates for Self-Assembled Receptors

The synthesis of two bis-amidinium calixarenes 3 and 4 has been achieved. Compounds 3 and 4 selfassemble with carboxylate salts via amidinium-carboxylate salt bridges producing ditopic receptor species, © 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Algorithms for Molecular Biology 12.1.2 Motivation

As we have already seen, under normal conditions, the DNA molecule is composed of two strands. These two strands are connected by hydrogen bonds, and together form the wellknown double helix structure. When a solution containing DNA is heated, these hydrogen bonds disappear, and the two strands drift apart. This single-stranded DNA is called denatured DNA (or, surprisingly enough single-strande...

Theoretical formulation for electron transfer coupled to multiple protons: Application to amidinium–carboxylate interfaces

This paper presents a theoretical formulation for electron transfer coupled to the motion of multiple protons. This theory is applied to proton-coupled electron transfer ~PCET! through amidinium– carboxylate salt bridges, where the electron transfer reaction is coupled to the motion of two protons at the proton transfer interface. The rate for the donor–~amidinium–carboxylate!–acceptor system i...
